Usually there are at least 2 slots, but possibly 3 or 4 for a fair-sized desktop PC. It all depends on how much ram your mobo can handle but I think you are talking about slots on the mobo sometimes there are 2 or 3 or 4. The difference being if there were 2 slots, your mobo can only handle 2 gigs. Now my mobo has 4 slots and can handle only 2 gigs. Depends on manufacturer or the price you want to pay.

I don't understand the memory capacity of Dell's motherboards. Also, ECC or Non-ECC, any real difference? Its dual channel just pair your ram sticks for example if you have 2 sticks of 4gb ddr3 put them both into the blue slots.
